Enegenagne

A mobile-first social dating and nearby-discovery platform for adults, combining intentional profiles and mutual matches, social posts and interests, and an opt-in nearby map that never exposes exact locations.

The problem

Dating apps tend to optimise for endless swiping, and location features often leak more than people intend. The goal was a platform that leads to real-life meetups while keeping members safe and in control of their data.

Approach

I built it in stages: the dating core (preferences, explained discovery, likes, matches, chat, block and report), then the social layer (photos, posts, events, an opt-in coarse map), then onboarding with community guidelines, notifications, data export with a 30-day deletion window, and a moderation console.

Architecture

A NestJS 12 modular monolith with Prisma 7, an Expo app for iOS and Android, and a Next.js 16 web app that calls the API only from the server. Short-lived JWTs with single-use, rotating refresh tokens and theft detection; on the web, tokens live in httpOnly cookies and never reach the browser.

Features

  • Explained discovery, mutual matches and chat
  • Opt-in coarse nearby map that never reveals exact location
  • Posts, interests, events and meetups
  • Block, report and a web moderation console with an audit log
  • Data download and account deletion with a 30-day grace period
  • Refresh-token rotation with theft detection; Argon2id passwords

Stack

Expo, React Native, Next.js 16, NestJS 12, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Prisma 7, Zod, Argon2id, pnpm monorepo

Results

  • Stage 5 (polish and validation) complete on web and mobile

“Safety features are product features. Building blocking, reporting, coarse location and data rights in from the start shaped every other screen for the better.”
